Credentials: Undergraduate Degree, St. Xavier College, Chicago Illinois:  Master’s Degree, in Advanced Training in Psychiatry, Medications for Psychiatric Disorders, Therapeutic Modalities for Mental Health issues. Resulting in becoming a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and earned a PhD in life’s experiences.

Training: Have been and continue to be a student of the world: My clients who have come from the inner city to bucolic pastures, have brought me a wealth of knowledge, to share, and others yet to come, their life’s experiences, which some have caused tremendous pain and others joys amid the sorrows.

My approach may be a little different from others. I see my clients as Captains of their own ships: I provide the rudder, and hold firm when there are tremendous waves, and help steer through the rocks within the shallow waters, until we can get either to shore safely or back to the high seas until we are ready to set for port. I am but another tool in which the client can use, to keep his ship safe and sound and afloat.

I maintain and adhere to three principles that have enabled me to successfully treat my clients: 

Empathy: Able to be one, with my client and truly present for them. Through the process of empathy, I can understand what periods of anxiety, depression, hopelessness, confusion, and grief can feel like, and how crippling they can be to the soul.

Kindness: A wonderful attribute to have, which allows me to gain the trust needed to help the client heal.

Caring: “Kristen Swanson, a nursing theorist, defines caring as in five different processes: Knowing, being with, doing for, enabling, not in a harmful way, but providing the vessel that clients can use to find peace, and lastly maintaining a belief that the client and I can form a mutual pact to provide healing and peace.”
